Description

EMVCo’s scope expansion over the past twelve years has resulted in the creation of new groups and EMVCo has decided in 2023 to update group titles to improve consistency and clarify our ongoing communication with Associates. Objectives of this naming update:

• Enhanced Clarity: Clearer distinction between the roles and responsibilities of each group.
• Streamlined Communication: Easier identification of groups for stakeholders, leading to more efficient interactions.
• Focused Expertise: Each group will have a more defined area of expertise, ensuring targeted and effective outcomes. This decision created three possible criteria for EMVCo groups:
• Task Forces have an exploratory nature and EMVCo has not yet decided that the group will have an ongoing remit (a current example is the Wireless Task Force) or will have a defined and time-limited remit (e.g., the Contactless kernel Task Force)
• Working Groups develop and maintain Specifications and Frameworks (e.g., Level 2, 3-D Secure or EMV Payment Tokenisation Working Groups) or have an ongoing operational responsibility and maintain guidelines (e.g. Marks Management or Security Evaluation Working Groups);
• Testing Groups facilitate the testing to assess products’ conformance to EMV® Specifications, allowing EMVCo to distinguish development from testing functions. These groups manage mainly testing and/or tool qualification processes with the objective of evaluating the products. We are pleased to announce a strategic reorganization and renaming of some of our working groups, testing groups, and task forces to enhance consistency and clarity in our operational structure. These changes are effective immediately and are retroactive, applying interchangeably to all documents and references published prior to 2023 (this retroactive application ensures consistency across EMVCo communications and documentation):
• “Card Approval Working Group” (CAWG) is now “Card Testing Group” (CTG);
• “Terminal Approval Working Group” (TAWG) is now “Terminal Testing Group” (TTG);
• “Level 1 Task Force” is now “Level 1 Testing Task Force” (L1TTF);
• “QR Task Force” is now “QR Working Group” (QRWG) for its commitment to continuous support to the QR Code Specifications. countries.
