EMV® Specification Bulletin No. 282 First Edition March 2023 PPS0 and PPS1 RFU Value Handling This Specification Bulletin updates the requirements related to PPS0 and PPS1 RFU value handling.

Description
This Specification Bulletin implements the following updates:
- It changes Table 5.24: Coding of PPS1
- It adds new PICC requirements 5.8.1.2a and 5.8.1.4 to specify the handling of RFU values in PPS0 and PPS1. The updates align the handling of RFU values in PPS0 and PPS1 with ISO/IEC 14443-4:2018. countries. Specification Changes Add new requirements table after Table 5.23 with new requirement 5.8.1.2a. Requirements 5.22a: PPS0 PICC 5.8.1.2a A PICC receiving a PPS command with PPS0 b8-b6 different from (000)b or b4-b1 different from (0001)b shall ignore the RFU value and respond to the PPS command. Update Table 5.24 as follows: Table 5.24: Coding of PPS1 b8 b7 b6 b5 b4 b3 b2 b1 Meaning 0 0 0 0 Other values are RFU x x DSI (selected divisor PICC to PCD) x x DRI (selected divisor PCD to PICC) Update Requirements 5.23: PPS1 as follows: Requirements 5.23: PPS1 PICC 5.8.1.3 The PICC shall implement the bit rates requested by the PCD in the PPS command after sending the PPS response provided they comply with those proposed by the PICC in TA(1) of the RATS response.
5.8.1.4 A PICC receiving a PPS command with PPS1 b8-b5 different from (0000)b shall ignore the PPS command and shall ignore any further PPS commands.
