EMV® Specification Bulletin No. 272 Second Edition January 2023 Update to Date Management Requirements This Specification Bulletin describes proposed changes to EMV® Contact Book 4.

Effective Date

January 2024 Background of this Specification Bulletin The first edition of Specification Bulletin No. 272 was published in September 2022 but is not included in v4.4 due to the timing of publication. This second edition is published to update the applicable specification version from v4.3 to v4.4. All other content remains unchanged from the first edition.

Description

In the current specification, terminals are required to process a 2-digit year (YY) as either 19YY or 20YY depending on the 2-digit year range defined. This bulletin updates the requirements to process all 2digit years as 20YY regardless of the range.

Specification Changes Change second paragraph of section 6.7.3 as follows ⚫ The terminal shall process treat a 2-digit year (YY, 00-99 inclusive) as follows having the value 20YY.

• YY in the range 00–49 inclusive is treated as having the value 20YY
• YY in the range 50–99 inclusive is treated as having the value 19YY The same rules shall be used if the terminal converts 2-digit years in format YY to 4-digit years in format YYYY. ⚫ The terminal shall support Transaction Date values up to and including the year 2099.
