EMV® General Bulletin No. 56 First Edition October 2022 Release of EMV Contact Specifications This Bulletin announces publication of the EMV Contact Specifications, version 4.4 and the new EMV Contact Level 1 Specification.

EMVCo is pleased to announce that the EMV Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems, version 4.4 (EMV Contact Specifications) are now available at the EMVCo website: Book 1: Application Independent ICC to Terminal Interface Requirements Book 2: Security and Key Management Book 3: Application Specification Book 4: Cardholder, Attendant, and Acquirer Interface Requirements EMV Integrated Circuit Card Specifications v4.4 includes relevant Specification Bulletins issued since the publication of v4.3 up to July 2022. Usually, change bars are added to specifications to show the changed sections. However, in this publication, change bars have not been added as a special measure to maintain readability, considering the large number of bulletins published over 10 years after the publication of the version 4.3. Please kindly refer to the revision log of each specification that lists all included bulletins, and the respected bulletins on EMVCo website if you would like to know the details of the changes. As already announced by General Bulletin 49, the requirements related to Level 1 that were formerly in Book 1 have been transferred to the following new specification: EMV Level 1 Specifications for Payment Systems, EMV Contact Interface Specifications, v1.0 This new specification includes Part II “Electromechanical Characteristics, Logical Interface, and Transmission Protocols”, Annex A and other relevant tables and figures from the previous Book 1 as amended by the relevant Specification Bulletins issued since the publication of v4.3. It is also now available at the EMVCo website.
