Best Practice Memo No. 1 First Edition November 2009 Best Practice for the Specification Update #75 Requesting Terminal AID in PDOL or other DOLs As introduced in the Specification Update Bulletin No. 75, EMVCo has identified a potential field issue related to Terminal Application Identifier (AID) – terminal (tag ‘9F06’). It is highly recommended for the industry to follow the best practices described below to prevent card acceptance issue at older terminals during the terminal migration period. Summary of the issue A review of existing terminals shows that some terminals do not populate the data element named ‘Application Identifier (AID) – terminal’ (tag '9F06') correctly. A card would request this data in the PDOL or another DOL if the card needed this Terminal AID for internal card processing. Any card processing dependent upon receiving an accurate Terminal AID from the terminal might encounter difficulties due to the terminals that do not populate this data element correctly. This best practice alerts issuers that the Terminal AID value returned from the terminal might not be correct. Impacted Market Global Severity Low
