Specification Bulletin No. 156 First Edition February 2015 State Changes due to Influence of Type A on Type B and vice versa This Specification Bulletin adopts ISO/IEC 14443 requirements regarding influence of Type A commands on Type B PICCs and vice versa and incorporates a new requirement for the Type A HALT state to ensure compliance with Version 1.1 of the specification.

Applicability

This Specification Bulletin applies to:

  • EMV Contactless Specifications for Payment Systems, Book D – EMV Contactless Communication Protocol Specification, Version 2.4 – February 2014.

Description

This bulletin adopts the ISO/IEC 14443 requirements regarding the influence of Type A commands on Type B PICCs and Type B commands on Type A PICCs. In this way it generalises the specific requirements related to the IDLE and HALT states in the current version of the specification. The requirements related to the Type A HALT state in section 7.2.8 of the current version of the specification, do not require the PICC with random UID to remain in the HALT state when receiving a WUPB. This is however required for the polling loop as defined in Version 1.1 of the specification. This bulletin specifies a new requirement for the Type A HALT state.

Specification Changes

  • Add the following new requirement to Requirements 7.1: Requirements 7.1: PICC Type A – State Machine PICC … 7.1.1.5 The PICC shall either go to IDLE state or be able to continue a transaction in progress after receiving any Type B command. The PICC shall be able to respond again to a Type A command no later than tP of unmodulated carrier after receiving the Type B command.
  • Delete requirement 7.2.2.2.
  • Add the following new requirements to Requirements 7.8: Requirements 7.8: Type A – HALT State PICC … 7.2.8.3 A PICC with random UID shall remain in the HALT state after it has received a WUPB command. http://www.emvco.com/specifications.aspx.
