Specification Bulletin No. 152 First Edition February 2015 Type B Bit Boundaries This Specification Bulletin changes the requirements related to Type B bit boundaries.

Applicability

This Specification Bulletin applies to:

  • EMV Contactless Specifications for Payment Systems, Book D – EMV Contactless Communication Protocol Specification, Version 2.4 – February 2014.

Description

The current version of the specification allows PCD to PICC Type B bit boundaries to be ± 8/fc from nominal position, but there is no corresponding requirement for the PICC. This bulletin includes a new requirement for the PICC. For PICC to PCD, the current version of the specification allows a tolerance of ± 1/fs for Type B bit boundaries. To align with ISO/IEC 14443 this bulletin removes this tolerance. It also includes a new requirement for the PCD.

Specification Changes Change Requirements 4.10 as follows: Requirements 4.10: Type B Bit Boundaries PCD to PICC PCD 4.5.1.3 From PCD to PICC, The PCD shall apply bit boundaries within a character shall occur between n etu – 8/fc and n etu + 8/fc. Where n is the number of bit boundaries after the start bit falling edge (1 ≤ n ≤ 9). PICC 4.5.1.3a The PICC shall accept bit boundaries within a character between n etu – 8/fc and n etu + 8/fc. Where n is the number of bit boundaries after the start bit falling edge (1 ≤ n ≤ 9). Introduce new Requirements 4.11 as follows: Requirements 4.11: Type B Bit Boundaries PICC to PCD PCD 4.5.1.4a The PCD shall accept bit boundaries within a character at nominal positions of rising or falling edges of the subcarrier. The PCD shall accept bit boundaries that occur at n etu. Where n is the number of bit boundaries after the start bit falling edge (1 ≤ n ≤ 9). PICC 4.5.1.4 From PICC to PCD, The PICC shall apply bit boundaries within a character shall only occur at nominal positions of rising or falling edges of the subcarrier. The bit boundaries shall occur at n etu. Where n is the number of bit boundaries after the start bit falling edge (1 ≤ n ≤ 9).: n etu ± 1/fs.
