Summary

This Specification Bulletin describes a change to the implementation options defined in EMV Book C-2, Version 2.4.

Description

The specification in EMV Book C-2 allows for options resulting in different possible kernel implementations. Whether an option is implemented or not determines the presence of certain data objects and symbols in the flow diagrams that form the specification. This in turn determines the functionality supported by the kernel. Table 3.2 of the specification presents the allowed implementation options. These are:

  • Support for EMV mode transactions (including torn transaction recovery and card balance reading)
  • Support for Data Exchange With two implementation options, there are thus four kernel implementations possible. http://www.emvco.com. This bulletin announces a change to the specification to restrict the implementation choices and to mandate support for EMV mode transactions. Specification Change On , change the text following Table 3.2 as follows: These two implementation options give rise to four possible valid Kernel implementations, supporting the functionality as described in Table 3.3. Of these implementations, only those supporting EMV mode transactions are considered valid. http://www.emvco.com.
