SB nº 105: End of Sequence Type B (Spec Change)

v1.0 Specification Bulletins
Contactless

Specification Bulletin No. 105 First Edition October 2012 End of Sequence – Type B This specification bulletin adds a new requirement related to the EoS for Type B modulation.

Effective Date

This specification bulletin is effective from November 2013 at which time any affected or new type approval testing will come into effect.

Applicability

This specification bulletin applies to:

  • EMV Contactless Specifications for Payment Systems, Book D – EMV Contactless Communication Protocol Specification, Version 2.2 – June 2012.

Related Documents

Description

Book D does not clearly specify that the EoS used for Type B de-synchronisation must immediately follow the last character. This specification bulletin clarifies that the EGT character separation time does not apply for the time between the last character and the EoS.

Specification Change In Section 4.6.2, Type B – De-synchronization, change Requirements 4.13 as follows: Requirements 4.13: End of Sequence PCD → PICC – Type B PCD PICC 4.6.2.1 The PCD shall code EoS as follows:

  • EoS: a time tPCD,E with carrier low (modulation applied), followed by a transition to carrier high The EoS shall come immediately after the last bit of the last data character (i.e. EGTPCD does not apply).

4.6.2.2 The PICC shall decode EoS as follows:

  • If the carrier is low (modulation applied) for a time tPCD,E, followed by a transition to carrier high (no modulation applied), then the PICC shall decode that as EoS. 4.6.2.2a The PICC shall decode a correctly coded EoS that follows the last bit of the last data character within a time EGTPCD as an EoS. http://www.emvco.com. In Section 4.6.2, Type B – De-synchronization, change Requirements 4.14 as follows: Requirements 4.14: End of Sequence PICC → PCD – Type B PCD PICC 4.6.2.3 If the PCD detects:
  • a subcarrier phase transition Ø0 to Ø0+180°
  • followed by the subcarrier with phase Ø0+180° for a time tPICC,E
  • followed by a subcarrier phase transition Ø0+180° to Ø then the PCD shall decode this as EoS. 4.6.2.3a The PCD shall decode a correctly coded EoS that follows the last bit of the last data character within a time EGTPICC as an EoS.

4.6.2.4 The PICC shall code the following as EoS:

  • a subcarrier phase transition Ø0 to Ø0+180°
  • followed by a subcarrier with phase Ø0+180° for a time tPICC,E
  • followed by a subcarrier phase transition Ø0+180° to Ø0 The EoS shall come immediately after the last bit of the last data character (i.e. EGTPICC does not apply). Refer to Annex A.4 for the value of tPICC,E. http://www.emvco.com.
