Description

EMV Book D defines bits b8-b5 of Param 3 of the ATTRIB command as RFU (refer to Table 6.18). Therefore the PICC must ignore these bits as specified in requirement 1.7.4.1. This is not compliant with ISO/IEC 14443-3:2011, section 7.10.5 which states the following: The PICC should ignore and not answer the ATTRIB command when (b8 to b5) (0000)b. This specification bulletin amends the handling of the bits b8-b5 of Param 3 of the ATTRIB command to be compliant with ISO/IEC 14443.

Specification Change In section 6.4.1 – Coding of Param 3: Modify Table 6.18 and add a requirement as follows: Table 0.1: Coding of Param 3 of the ATTRIB Command b8 b7 b6 b5 b4 b3 b2 b1 Meaning 0 0 0 0 RFU All other values are RFU 0 0 0 1 PICC compliant with ISO/IEC 14443-4 0 0 0 0 PICC not compliant with ISO/IEC 14443-4 All other values RFU Requirements 6.22: Coding and handling of Param 3 of the ATTRIB Command PCD 6.4.1.9 The PCD shall set the least significant nibble (b4 to b1) to (0001)b in response to an ISO/IEC 14443-4 compliant PICC. PICC 6.4.1.x The PICC shall handle the bits b8 to b5 of Param 3 by one of the following two methods:

  • Not examine or depend upon the coding of bits b8-b5
  • In the case that b8 to b5 is different from (0000)b, ignore the ATTRIB command, send no response and remain in current state.Ignore ATTRIB command, send no response and remain in current state.
