Description

The EMV Contactless Specifications require a bit in the Application Interchange Profile (AIP) data element to be reserved for use by contactless implementations. The use of the bit is described in the relevant contactless specifications from EMVCo, but the EMV 4.2 specification, Book 3 section C1 describes the coding of the AIP. In order to ensure that in the future the bit is not assigned a different meaning outside the contactless specifications, it is necessary to indicate that the bit is reserved for use for contactless implementations. Proposed Specification Change In EMV 4.2 Book 3, section C1, Table 37, change the ‘Meaning’ for byte 2 bit 8 from ‘RFU’ to ‘Reserved for use by the EMV Contactless Specifications’. © 1994-2011 EMVCo, LLC (“EMVCo”).
