Specification Bulletin No. 75 First Edition November 2009 Terminal AID Terminals are not correctly populating the ‘Application Identifier (AID) – terminal’ data element. This Specification Bulletin clarifies how it should be initialised.

Effective Date

This bulletin is effective from November 2010, at which time any affected or new type approval testing will also come into effect.

Description

The terminal shall populate a data element named ‘Application Identifier (AID) – terminal’, tag '9F06', and a review of existing terminals suggests that it is not always populated correctly. Currently, terminal type approval does not check whether this data element is either populated or populated correctly. This bulletin clarifies how this data element shall be populated. During application selection, a candidate list of applications that are supported by both the card and terminal is built. One of these applications is chosen, and a final SELECT command is issued by the terminal to select the chosen application. If the chosen application is correctly selected in the ICC, the DF Name (tag '84') in the FCI returned by the ICC in the response message to the final SELECT command shall be the same as the AID used in that command. On correct selection of the chosen application, the ‘Application Identifier (AID) – terminal’ data element (tag '9F06') shall be populated with the same value as the DF Name (tag '84') returned by the ICC in the FCI in response to the final SELECT command. Specification Clarification Notice Add the following paragraph after the existing final paragraph of Book 1 section 12.4: ‘On successful selection of the application to be used (SW1 SW2 = '9000' returned in response to the final SELECT command, the response contains no format errors, and the AID used in the final SELECT command matches the DF Name (tag '84') returned by the ICC in the FCI), the terminal shall set the value of the terminal data element ‘Application Identifier (AID) – terminal’ (tag '9F06') to the same value as the ‘DF Name’ (tag '84') returned in the FCI.’ If transaction processing is to be continued according to Book 3, this shall be done prior to issuance of the GET PROCESSING OPTIONS command.
