Specification Update Bulletin No. 61 First Edition August 2007 CPA Additional Check Table Error Processing This Specification Update Bulletin describes changes to the EMV Common Payment Application (CPA) Specification for Payment Systems. These changes clarify the handling of an error during processing of an Additional Check Table x. The changes in this bulletin will be incorporated into version v1.0.c of the CPA Card Type Approval documentation (that is, Test Cases, Card Images, and Implementation Conformance Statement). Testing will be effective 1 February 2008. This bulletin is optional for all CPA cards submitted for testing commencing on or after 1 February 2008.

Description

This Specification Update Bulletin describes changes to the EMV Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Common Payment Application Specification. These changes clarify the handling of an error during processing of an Additional Check Table x. This change clarifies that the ‘Check failed’ bits in the ADR and CVR are set if an error occurs during processing of an Additional Check Table x.

Specification Change Notice Please make the following changes. Add the following new Req 15.84 at the bottom of

-28: “Req 15.84 (Additional Check Table x error): “If an error occurs during processing of Additional Check Table x, the application shall:

  • set the ‘Check failed’ bit in the CVR to the value 1b
  • set the ‘Check failed’ bit in the ADR to the value 1b
  • not modify the setting of the ‘Match found in any Additional Check Table’ bit in the CVR
  • not modify the setting of the ‘Match found in Additional Check Table x’ bit in the ADR,
  • not modify the setting of the ‘No match found in Additional Check Table x’ bit in the ADR.” In flow 15-12 on -110, make the following change: Insert a box containing the text, “set ‘Check failed’ in CVR to 1b” and “set ‘Check failed’ in ADR to 1b” immediately before the symbol with the text “return (error condition)”; with an arrow out of the added box pointing into the symbol “return (error condition)”. Note: The following modification references text that was previously modified by edit number 48 in Specification Update bulletin 58 - Editorial Errors in Release 1.0 of the CPA Specifications. In flow 15-12.1 on -111, make the following change: Insert a box containing the text, “set ‘Check failed’ in CVR to 1b” and “set ‘Check failed’ in ADR to 1b” immediately before the symbol with the text “return (error condition)”; with an arrow out of the added box pointing into the symbol “return (error condition)”.
