SB nº SU-22 : Terminal behaviour when data for CVM condition is not known (Spec Change)

Specification Update Bulletin No. 22 First edition April 2004 This Bulletin has immediate effect Products will be tested against the requirements of this bulletin commencing 1st October 2004 Terminal Behaviour When Data For CVM Condition Is Not Known This specification change applies to EMV '96 Integrated Circuit Card Application Specification for Payment Systems Version 3.1.1 and EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Version 4.0. It is necessary to clarify that when data required by a CVM condition is not present in the terminal when the CVM List is processed, the terminal shall bypass the CVM rule and proceed to the next rule. This behaviour applies for both ICC data and terminal data. This means that when a CVM rule uses a CVM condition requiring Amount, Authorized and the amount has not yet been entered into the terminal, the CVM rule is bypassed. Terminal Behaviour Modification Please make the following change to EMV '96 Integrated Circuit Card Application Specification for Payment Systems Version 3.1.1 Section 7.5 Cardholder Verification and to EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Version 4.0 Book 3 Section 6.5 Cardholder Verification: Change the second bullet after "If any of the following are true" from

• "The ICC data required by the condition (for example, the Application Currency Code) is not present, or " to
