None When an authorisation response is not correctly received by a terminal, an acquirer or network may require one or more repeats of the authorisation request. It is necessary to clarify that, in the event that an authorisation request fails to obtain a valid response, any requirements for repeats of the authorisation request are outside the scope of EMV. EMV specifies what the terminal behaviour should be after an authorisation request, and any repeats thereof as required by the acquirer or network, have failed to obtain a valid authorisation response. Specification Clarification Change Notice It is intended to clarify the wording in future versions of EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems, Version 4.0, Book 4, Section 8.2.3, Authorisation Response Incidents as follows: Change the first sentence of the second paragraph from "After repeat(s) of the authorisation request, the terminal shall process the transaction as being unable to go online." to "After repeat(s)1, if any, of the authorisation request, the terminal shall process the transaction as being unable to go online." 1 Acquirers or networks may require that an authorisation request be repeated in the event that a valid response is not obtained. Requirements for such repeat(s) are outside the scope of EMV. This document contains proprietary and confidential information of EMVCo LLC. Copyright © EMVCo LLC 2003
