Application Note No. 11, June 30th, 2003 Setting of Default TDOL Used Bit in TVR EMV '96 Version 3.1.1 and EMV 2000 Version 4.0 The purpose of this application note is to clarify the setting of the ‘Default TDOL Used’ bit in the Terminal Verification Results (TVR) when the CDOL requests a TC Hash Value and no TDOL is received from the card, and the terminal does not contain a Default TDOL. This application note applies to EMV '96 Integrated Circuit Card Specification for Payment Systems Integrated Circuit Card Application Specification for Payment Systems Version 3.1.1 and to EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Book 3 Version 4.0. Clarification on Setting of TVR Default TDOL Used Bit This Application Note applies to EMV '96 Integrated Circuit Card Specification for Payment Systems Integrated Circuit Card Application Specification for Payment Systems Version 3.1.1 Section 8.2.2 Transaction Certificate Data and to EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Version 4.0 Book 3, Section 5.2.2 Transaction Certificate Data: The final sentence in the first paragraph of these sections requires that: “If a default TDOL is required but is not present in the terminal, a default TDOL with no data objects in the list shall be assumed”. If this event occurs, since the default TDOL was not used, the terminal shall not set the 'Default TDOL Used' bit in the TVR to '1'."
