Specifications Updates: Bulletin no. 14, October 2002 Change to format specification for the Application Label and Application Preferred Name The contents of this bulletin have immediate effect. This bulletin applies to EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Version 4.0 Book 1, Annex B Data Elements Table and Book 3, Annex A Data Elements Table, and to EMV '96 Integrated Circuit Card Specification for Payment Systems Version 3.1.1, Annex B Data Elements Table. Change to format specification for the Application Label In order to allow cards to contain Application Labels that could contain spaces, it is necessary to change the format of the Application Label data element from "an" to "ans" with the special character limited to space. This data format is supported by terminals according to EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Version 4.0, Book 4, Section 7.1 and EMV '96 Integrated Circuit Card Terminal Specification for Payment Systems Version 3.1.1 Part III Section 1.1. Please make the following change to EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Version 4.0, Book 1, Annex B Data Elements Table and Book 3, Annex A Data Elements Table, and to EMV '96 Integrated Circuit Card Specification for Payment Systems Version 3.1.1, Annex B Data Elements Table. Change the entry in the row containing Tag ‘50’ Application Label to the following: Format: "ans" with the special character limited to space. Change to format specification for the Application Preferred Name In order to allow cards to contain Application Preferred Names that can utilize the character set designated by the Issuer Code Table Index, it is necessary to change the format of the Application Preferred Name data element from "an" to "ans". This data format is supported by terminals according to EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Version 4.0, Book 4, Section 7.1 and by EMV '96 Integrated Circuit Card Terminal Specification for Payment Systems Version 3.1.1 Part III Section 1.1.

Please make the following change to EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Version 4.0, Book 1, Annex B Data Elements Table and Book 3, Annex A Data Elements Table, and to EMV '96 Integrated Circuit Card Specification for Payment Systems Version 3.1.1, Annex B Data Elements Table. Change the entry in the row containing Tag ‘9F12’ Application Preferred Name to the following: Format: "ans"
