v1.0 Specification Bulletins

EMVCo Bulletins Specification Update: Bulletin no. 4: The contents of this bulletin have immediate effect. Change to status of ‘Presence’ of the Application Label data element This bulletin applies to EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Version 4.0 Book 1, section 7.3.4 – Data Field Returned in the Response Message In order to pre-empt acceptance problems that could occur in the future if some types of ICC currently in issue were to be presented to an EMV 2000 compliant terminal, it is necessary to change the ‘Presence’ status of the Application Label data element that is included in the Response Message Data Field when an ADF is selected. Please make the following changes to EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Version 4.0, Book 1, section 7.3.4 – Data Field Returned in the Response Message: In Table 40 – SELECT Response Message Data Field (FCI) of an ADF, change the entry in the ‘Presence’ column of the row containing Tag ‘50’ Application Label from ‘M’ to ‘O’ Add the following note under the caption for Table 40: Note: For multi-application ICCs, it is strongly recommended that the Application Label data element be included in the Response Message in order to facilitate cardholder choice/confirmation of the application to be used when a terminal employs the ‘List of AIDs’ method for application selection.
