Specifications Updates Bulletin no. 11 First Edition November 2001 Change to format specification for the Authorization Code data element The contents of this bulletin have immediate effect. This bulletin applies to EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Version 4.0 Book 3, Annex A Data Elements Table. In order to enable devices to accept valid authorization codes which could be of varying formats from authorization authorities, it is necessary to change the format of the Authorization Code data element from 'an' to a coding as defined by the payment systems. Please make the following change to EMV 2000 Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems Version 4.0, Book 3, Annex A Data Elements Table: Change the entries in the row containing Tag ‘89’ Authorization Code to the following: Description: Value generated by the authorization authority for an approved transaction Format: As defined by the payment systems
