General Bulletin No. 45 Fourth Edition July 2011 Public Release of the EMV Contactless Specifications Version 2.1 This General Bulletin announces the public release of the EMV Contactless Specifications, version 2.1. This suite of specifications is part of EMVCo's Common Contactless Kernel Project as presented in General Bulletin 43.

Description

EMVCo published General Bulletin 43, EMVCo Common Contactless Terminal Roadmap, in November 2009 wherein EMVCo presented an update on the current state of contactless payment development and described EMVCo's approach to achieve common contactless acceptance - the result was the Common Contactless Kernel Project. For this project, EMVCo has developed a phased plan and Phase One aims to achieve streamlining of existing licensing and contactless type approval and to build a framework for future development. EMVCo is pleased to announce the completion of specification development for Phase One and has published the suite of EMVCo Contactless Specifications, Version 2.1 and related documents:

  • Book A: Architecture and General Requirements
  • Book B: Entry Point
  • Books C [C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4]: Kernel Specifications
  • Book D: Contactless Communication Protocol
  • EMV Contactless Specs v2.1 Disposition of Comments Book B: Entry Point v2.1 supersedes Entry Point version 1.0. Book D v2.1 contains only editorial changes and editorial clarifications from EMV Contactless Communication Protocol Specification, Version 2.0.1, July 2009; no technical changes apply and no wording changes http://www.emvco.com/ have been made to Requirements. Type approval for Book D v2.1 remains identical as EMV CCP v2.0.1. In conjunction, EMVCo has also completed the process for obtaining a Kernel ID for ensuring a one-to-one matching between the card application and the contactless kernel.
