Description

EMVCo is pleased to announce a new test to evaluate the accuracy of the measurements done for the Relay Resistance Protocol when these measurements are performed by the PCD. The Relay Resistance Protocol is included in the C-2 and C-8 kernel specifications and depends on accurate timing measurements, which may be taken at different implementation levels. One approach is to perform these measurements at the PCD level. Having this evaluation done during the PCD Type Approval is a product provider choice. Contactless Products based on PCDs that have not been evaluated will be tested for accuracy during the Type Approval. Note that a product provider can ask for this evaluation to be performed either:

  • on a new PCD during PCD L1 Type Approval. The Level 1 Contactless evaluation fee will be applied with no additional fee for the Timing Measurement Accuracy Evalutation. Or
  • on an already approved PCD provided it implements the PCD Timing Measurement Accuracy Evaluation Device Test Environment and the level 1 firmware is not changed. The LoA will be updated with the evaluated accuracy without changing the LoA expiration date. Only the Letter of Approval Re- issuance fee will be applied. To support this evaluation, the following documents have been published on EMVCo website:
  • EMV Level 1 PCD – Implementation Conformance Statement, version 3.2a- 260716: This document is an update of the PCD L1 ICS that will permit the product provider to indicate if the PCD is submitted to:
  • PCD L1 Type Approval (new PCD),
  • PCD L1 Type Approval and PCD Timing Measurement Accuracy Evaluation (new PCD) or
  • PCD Timing Measurement Accuracy Evaluation (PCD already approved). countries. It will also permit the product provider to indicate if the PCD measures the FDT (Frame Delay Time) and/or the Time Taken for the Relay Resistance Protocol.
