Description
The EMV Contactless Specifications require that two of the currently RFU bits in the Application Interchange Profile (AIP) data element are reserved for use by contactless implementations. The use of these bits is described in the relevant contactless specifications from EMVCo, but the EMV 4.3 specification, Book 3 section C1 describes the coding of the AIP. In order to ensure that in the future these bits are not assigned a different meaning outside the contactless specifications, it is necessary to indicate that they are reserved for use for contactless implementations. Proposed Specification Change In EMV 4.3 Book 3, section C1, Table 37, change the ‘Meaning’ for byte 1 bit 2 and byte 2 bit 7 from ‘RFU’ to ‘Reserved for use by the EMV Contactless Specifications’. © 1994-2013 EMVCo, LLC (“EMVCo”).
