Terminal setting: BDBs format and requests The high-level architecture of Biometric Terminal and Card is the following: To be able to extensively test the Biometric Terminal, the ‘Biometric Processing Application’ is taken out of the picture and replaced by other solutions usable to inject specific BDB content upon request. For testing purposes, EMVCo requires the terminal vendor to: - Provide a ‘Biometric Terminal Test Application’ that will use the Test BDBs defined further, - Deactivate the Biometric Processing Application so both applications are not running together. The ‘Biometric Terminal Test Application’ can either be manual or automated. See options 1 and 2 respectively below. Whatever the selected option, the ‘Biometric Terminal Test Application’ shall support at least the Terminal maximum BDB size and maximum issuer script size (when applicable).
countries.
Option 1 (manual test BDB injection) One solution is to leave the handling and submission of Test BDBs to the terminal provider. The Biometric Terminal Test Application’ is setup with all BDBs required to complete all biometric tests and provides the ability to the test engineer to unambiguously use the relevant BDB for each test. See following figure.
countries.
Option 2 (automated test BDB injection) Another solution is to leave the BDB management to the Test tool itself. It is possible provided that the ‘Biometric Terminal Test Application’ can communicate with the Test Tool. In such a case, the test tool already knows all the various BDB contents and can seamlessly validate the content of deciphered BDBs. See following figure. Test BDBs required The reference test BDBs are defined below BDB ID Test #BDB_01 (default) BDB length BDB of 400 bytes BDB value Filled with ‘01’ bytes Test #BDB_03 Test #BDB_05 Test #BDB_12 Test #BDB_13 Test #BDB_14 Test #BDB_15 BDB of the maximum BDB size supported by the Terminal BDB of 90 bytes BDB of 240 bytes BDB of 240 bytes BDB of 240 bytes BDB of 240 bytes Filled with ‘03’ bytes Filled with ‘05’ bytes Filled with ‘12’ bytes Filled with ‘13’ bytes Filled with ‘14’ bytes Filled with ‘15’ bytes When no specific BDB is referenced in a test case, the default BDB is ‘#BDB_01’. Online biometric BDB verification
countries.
While the Biometric Terminal Specification bulletin (SB185) is not describing the encryption and transport mechanisms for online biometric CVMs, there is the need to check that the terminal is behaving correctly. To achieve that, the terminal vendor implementing online biometric CVMs must provide a way to verify the deciphered BDB value. Ideally, the test tool can interface with the host simulator (likely provided by the terminal vendor) to access this deciphered BDB value. This deciphered BDB verification needs to be performed each time a BDB is sent online.
