EMV<sup>®</sup> Specification Bulletin No. 258 First Edition October 2021 Type A CID Value of 15 This Specification Bulletin updates the requirement for a Type A PICC receiving a CID value of 15.

Applicability

This Specification Bulletin applies to:

  • EMV Level 1 Specifications for Payment Systems, EMV Contactless Interface Specification, Version 3.1 – December 2020.

Description

This Specification Bulletin updates the PICC Type A requirement when receiving a CID value of 15. A Type A PICC receiving a CID value of 15 must handle the RATS command as a protocol error.

Specification Changes Change requirement 5.7.1.4 and add new requirement 5.7.1.4a as follows: Requirements 5.11: Support of CID PCD 5.7.1.3 The PCD shall not use CID, indicated by setting b4-b1 to (0000)b. PICC 5.7.1.4 The PICC shall accept a RATS command with CID in the range from 0 to 14. The PICC may ignore the value of the CID in the range from 0 to 14 included in the RATS command and indicate in TC(1) that it does not support CID. 5.7.1.4a The PICC shall treat a RATS command with CID set to 15 as a protocol error.
