Effective Date

  • Immediately As described in TTA Bulletin No. 280, EMVCo has activated the v3.2a Type Approval process on March 1st, 2025, allowing Vendors to apply for a v3.2a Letter of Approval (LoA). The v3.2a Type Approval process will become mandatory on May 1st, 2025. EMVCo has defined a migration period from the v3.2a activation date until May 1st, 2025. During this period PCD providers can decide to renew their products against v3.1a or v3.2a of the Analogue and Digital Test Cases. After this migration period PCD providers shall renew their products against v3.2a version of Analogue and Digital Test Cases. This 4th edition of the TTA Bulletin No. 222 is defining the PCD Letter of Approval (LoA) Renewal process version 3.2a. Reminder If the Product Provider needs to update the DTE for Renewal testing, no change shall be performed on the Level 1 part of the PCD, neither hardware nor software. Renewal Processes Renewal: To receive an extension of the LoA (Renewal), the PCD shall be compliant with all 3.2 specification requirements and shall pass all the current tests (v3.2a or later). Note that EMVCo operates an optimized renewal process with selected testing only, usually limited to the “delta testing”. The resulting Letter of Approval is valid 4 years. Restricted Renewal: If a PCD fails Renewal testing, EMVCo offers a process to allow PCDs to receive a Letter of Approval using the Restricted Renewal Process. The conditions are:
  • Analogue Tests:
  • Failures on IQ Demodulation Test Cases (TA151 and TB151) will be accepted, without requiring to be reviewed by an EMVCo approved reviewer.
  • Any other failure on Analogue Test Cases: The Product Provider will be required to submit details to an EMVCo approved reviewer who will produce an impact assessment report. EMVCo will then review the report to determine whether a Restricted Renewal can be granted.
  • Digital Tests: In the case of Digital test case failures, the Product Provider will be required to submit details to an EMVCo approved reviewer who will produce an impact assessment report. EMVCo will then review the report to determine whether a Restricted Renewal can be granted.
  • Interoperability Tests: A PCD shall pass all interoperability testing. The Letter of Approval validity date will be set to:
  • Dec 31st, 2027, if non-compliance with Analogue requirements is related to IQ modulation only (TA151 and TB151).
  • Dec 31st, 2025, for non-compliance to Analogue requirements introduced in v3.0.
  • 4 years from the Renewal date for any other failure. For addition information about Renewal process please refer to the Terminal Type Approval PCD Level 1 - Administrative Process.
